Filmemacher Christoph Schwarz ist pleite. Da kommt das Angebot eines Fernsehsenders gerade recht, ein Jahr lang einen Klimastreik im Selbstversuch zu verfilmen. Schwarz setzt eine Verschärfung des Experiments durch: ein Geldstreik als kapitalismuskritischer Einstieg in den Klimaaktivismus und als einmalige Gelegenheit, sich um das Filmbudget heimlich das langersehnte Wochenendhaus im Waldviertel zu kaufen.
Schwarz erprobt suffiziente Lebensstile, rettet Lebensmittel aus der Tonne, baut am Kreisverkehr Erdäpfel und in einem Cabrio Kräuter an, veranstaltet Fahrraddemos und blockiert Autobahnbaustellen. Das Problem, mit einem Film über einen Geldstreik selbst Geld verdient zu haben, wird Schwarz allerdings nicht so leicht los. Ein selbstironischer Meta-Dokumentarfilm über Doppelmoral in Zeiten der Klimakrise, über die Privilegien des Autoverkehrs in der Stadt und die Möglichkeiten, dagegen anzukämpfen – humorvoll erzählt mit dem für Christoph Schwarz typischen, spielerischen Umgang mit Wahrheit und Lüge.
Filmmaker Christoph Schwarz is broke. The offer from a TV station to film a climate strike for a year as a self-experiment comes at just the right time. Schwarz pushes through an intensification of the experiment: a money strike as a capitalism-critical introduction to climate activism and as a unique opportunity to secretly buy the long-awaited weekend house in the Waldviertel using the film budget.
Schwarz tries out sufficient lifestyles, rescues food from the garbage can, grows potatoes at traffic circles and herbs in a convertible, organizes bicycle demonstrations and blocks freeway construction sites. However, Schwarz does not easily get rid of the problem of having earned money himself with a movie about a money strike. A self-deprecating meta-documentary about double standards in times of climate crisis, about the privileges of car traffic in the city and the possibilities of fighting against it - humorously told with Christoph Schwarz's typical playful handling of truth and lies.
